Baitai Press. It was a prestigious international media source that so many relied on for news updates from across the five great nations. In fact it was the only media source that provided unbiased international news, and so it was highly regarded by the everyday citizen. Baitai had just recently become international and thus had caused an alarming stir among daimyos and village leaders alike, from fear of what might be uncovered and shared to their citizens. After all, information control was an essential tool for the megalomaniacs.

The fear of influential independent media led to Baitai Press being a target for so many... Though target as they might, the whereabouts of the facility are entirely unknown. The brave journalists used aliases, and the distribution of newspapers was evenly spread.

One thing was for sure... As was Bantai's Motto;

Truth Will Always Prevail.

A special edition of Baitai Press! Newspaper quickly made the rounds across the great nations. The speed in which the news was delivered so soon after the events transpired was mind-boggling...

Quote :: Breaking News...! Annual Chunnin Exams Infiltrated - Thousands Dead. 8-November, 1324.
Collaborative Chunnin Exams were hosted in Konohagakure this year, where participants from all the great nations combined efforts in an attempt to provide a benchmark to what's expected of a shinobi while strengthening relationships between previously hostile villages.

While the prospect was promising, reports have shown that Kirigakure (Hidden Mist Village) infiltrated the exams with highly trained individuals. Intent has not been disclosed, however it is confirmed that the Mizukage (Mei Hozuki), ordered these individuals to slaughter the participants during the exams, and then cause chaos thereafter.

It's reported that over three thousand shinobi and citizens alike have been causalities of this conflict. Sunagakure and Iwagakure remained to assist in Konoha's defense against Kirigakure, which might have been crucial to defend against the zealous shinobi village, with a rich history of attempted invasions against the wealthy Fire Country. Most of the Kirigakure invaders have been captured and detained by Konohagakure.

Among the many lives that have been taken were dozens of shinobi from the Hyuga clan, a founding family of Konohagakure. This included the clan head who was believed to be defending his clan until his last breath. The young heir, Masami Hyuuga, is now the head of the Hyuuga clan. The clan are understandably in mourning.

A local nurse from Konohagakure commented that in the face of such a brutal attack, there were those few who joined forces to protect the citizens. Specifically a group of genin (lowest ranking shinobi) held attackers at bay and successfully defended the hospital, which housed hundreds of injured citizens.

Due to the secretive nature of Shinobi life, the exact details of the examinations are unfortunately unknown to us at this time, as are the current whereabouts of Mei Hozuki. It is however reported that Konohagakure is in a position of power, and Kirigakure is currently in a state of turmoil.

This devastating attack has resulted in a termination of the peace treaty written up by the Hokage (Hajime Senju) and agreed upon by the Kages of all great nations. Further details to come...
